Nearly 60 Shaftesbury athletes toed the line for the National XC Champs held in Roundhay Park, Leeds on Sat 27th February.
There were yet more individual and team medals to bring home to North London.
Pride of place goes again to Richard Goodman who repeated his regional successes by winning the Under 17 Mens title by a clear 30 seconds and he will now be aiming for GB selection at the Worlds Cross Country Championships in Poland by contesting the Under 20 race in the UK Trials being held in conjunction with the Inter Counties Champs being held in Crofton Park, Birmingham on Sat 13th March.

The North London Lions, team managed by Geoff Morphitis claimed 2nd place again this year. There were some impressive performances by Shaftesbury athletes.

The McCain North London Athletics Network comprises a main group of Athletic clubs based in North London (Highgate Harriers, London Heathside, Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers) as well as Middlesex University, who have joined together to work in a partnership which is committed to developing the sport of athletics in the region. The main focus of the network is to raise participation levels in the sport through close collaboration with schools and local authorities and to develop athletes, coaches and officials to support and sustain the sport of athletics.

States side saw U23 Lucy Yates run 2m07.8secs for 800m in Seattle on 13.2.10 while Glen Watts (pictured) ran 14m51.67secs over 5k at Allendale on 12.2.10.
In Europe Ryan Moseley clocked 6.70secs over 600m in Ghent
Back home Neil Addison placed 3rd in the Stamford 30k in 1hr43.36secs
U20 Jake Shelley ran 4th fastest in the Hyde Park Relays when representing Oxford University
W40 Maggie Cooper improved to 19m23secs over 5k at the Finsbury Park Parkrun
Steve Benson won over 60m in 6.81secs in the RAF and Universities Meeting in Sheffield.
The Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham saw a brilliant breakthrough by Nick Smith as he lowered his best 60m time to 6.60secs while Gemma Bennett ran a strong 60m Hurdles to place 2nd in 8.13secs

Pride of place goes to the female young athletes who clinched Apex Chiltern League divisional titles at both Under 15 and Under 17 age groups. The U13 Girls finished a very creditable 3rd team overall in this highly competitive league.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
For many years SBH have undertaken the organisation of the start of the London Mini Marathon - would you like to be a volunteer helper on Sunday 25th April, the day of the Marathon?
Full officials kit provided, London Marathon Volunteer medal and free breakfast provided also great access to the spectate on the course at halfway and 24/25 miles!

Maggie Cooper ran 19m41secs over 5k when winning the W40 Finsbury Park Run
In the Watford Half Marathon Orlando Edwards ran 68.37; Tony Jackson 74.09 and Ronan Breen 76.37.
Emily Ferenczi placed 17th in the Surrey Womens XC League on Wimbledon Common while Orlando Edwards placed 4th in the Mens race.
Shaftesbury hosted the 4th race in the North West London Young Athletes XC League at Barnet Copthall Stadium.
