SARACENS AND COPTHALL – FANTASTIC NEWS Boris Johnson, The Mayor of London, has approved the planning application. Now we just need to wait to hear from Eric Pickles, the Secretary of State – approximately one week.

Congratulations to MARILYN OKORO and YAMILE ALDAMA who have been selected to represent GB in the World Indoor Championships on 9-11 March in Istanbul.

The MINI MARATHON TRIALS will be held on Sunday 04 March 2012. At Copthall Stadium, Approx 3 miles course.

Under 13 Boys & Girls Must be born on or after 1st September 1998, Must be aged 11 on 22nd April 2012, (1st September 1998 to 22nd April 2001)

Under 15 Boys & Girls Must be born on or after 1st September 1996, (1st September 1996 to 31st August 1998)

Under 17 Boys & Girls Must be born on or after 1st September 1994, (1st September 1994 to 31st August 1996)
If you make the team the event is on 22 April 2012 (You will be required to attend training up to the event or you may lose your place on the team).




Details for the 04 March trials:

Boys registration 10am, Boys Race (all ages) 10.30am, Girls Registration 10.20am, Girls Race (all ages) 10.50am.Please note: Consent form is attached and must be returned to Tony Smith or sent to the address at the bottom of the consent form by Thursday 1 March 2012 in order to take part.

The London Marathon is delighted to be able to offer each participant who makes the team in the 2012 mini London marathon event on 22 April 2012 a ticket for one of the athletics sessions in the Olympics this August. These tickets have been purchased by the London marathon through UK Athletics ticket allocation who have made them available in order to support grass root athletics.

February 25th – National Championships Cross Country

Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead Heath. (SatNav NW51LP). Nearest station is Gospel Oak (Main Line).

Start times – 11.00am U17 Women (5km) , 11.25am U15 Boys (4.5km), 11.45am U20 Women (6km), 12.15pm U13 Girls (3km), 12.35pm U17 Men (6km), 1.00pm U15 Girls (4km), 1.20pm U20 Men (10km), 2.05pm U13 Boys (3km), 2.20pm Senior Women (8km), 3.00pm Senior Men (12km).

You have to have been pre-entered by your Team Manager. But please let Simon, Tony and Joyce know if you are running.



March 3rd - North West London League Cross Country Match 5

Perivale Community Centre, Horsenden Lane South, Greenford, Middlesex. (SatNav UB67NP).

Start times - U11 Girls 1.2km 1.00pm, U11 Boys/U13 Girls 2km approximately 1.10pm, U13 Boys/U15Girls 3km approximately 1.25pm, U15 Boys/U17 Women 4km approximately 1.45pm, U17 Men 4.7km approximately 2.05pm. If anyone is just out of the U17 age group, they can run as a guest. Course is approximately 5 minutes from centre.

You do not have to be pre-entered, just turn up and run. But please let Tony and Joyce know if you are running.

Directions – Leave the A40 sign-posted Perivale and follow signs to Horsenden Lane South/Perivale Station (SatNav UB67NP). Nearest station Perivale (Central Line), turn right out of station and Community Centre 5 minutes on the left.



March 3rd – Horsenden Relays Cross Country

Perivale Community Centre, Horsenden Lane South, Perivale, Greenford, Middlesex. (SatNav UB67NP).

Start times – 2.45pm 61st Senior Men 6 x 2.5 miles, 18th Senior Women 3 x 2.5 miles. Course is approximately 5 minutes from centre.

You do not have to be pre-entered, just turn up and run. But please let Simon know if you are running.

March 3rd – McCain City Challenge Match 2

Geoff Morphitis will be selecting the North London Lions team, which will feature many Shaftesbury Athletes.

March 17th – English Schools Cross Country Championships

NAS Merryfield, Ilton, Somerset. NAS. Merryfield is a fully working airbase with permanent security, access to the base and championship course can only be made on the day of the championships.

Start times – 12.30pm Intermediate Girls, 1.00pm Junior Boys, 1.30pm Junior Girls, 2.00pm Intermediate Boys, 2.35pm Senior Girls, 3.05pm Senior Boys.

Directions – Traffic from the North turn of the M5 at junction 25, and follow the A358 southwards towards Ilminster, then turn left towards Ilton. Drive straight through the village of Ilton. The entrance to NAS Merryfield is in front of you. If you are travelling on the A303, you must divert along the A327 and then along the A378 to join the A358 north of Ilton. Once on the A358 travel southwards until the turnoff.

When leaving all traffic must exit Ilton to the A358, you must turn LEFT onto the A358 and drive south, about 2 miles, towards the Southfield roundabout. Traffic for the M5 can then circle the Southfields roundabout, then travel northwards back along the A358 to the M5. The A303 is the 1st exit when you reach the Southfield roundabout.



April 1st – 31st Hercules Wimbledon Young Athletes Open Meeting

Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, Ledrington Road, London SE19 2BB.

Events – 100m, 200m, 600m, 800m, 1000m 1500, Dave Clarke Mile, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Pole Vault, Shot Putt, Discus, Javelin, Brenda Bedford Discus. From Under 11 up to Under 20 age groups.

Entries form attached, and entries close 19 March.



We have received the official North West London League positions after match 4, which are as follows;

Under 11 Boys – 1st Highgate Harriers 36 points, 2nd SBH 35, 3rd TVH 32. This means on the 03/03 we must beat HH and we will be joint winners, if we beat them by 2 places, SBH will win.

Under 11 Girls – 1st Highgate Harriers 37, 2nd Barnet 33, 3rd TVH 31, 7th SBH 17.

Under 13 Boys – 1st TVH 40, 2nd Ealing 34, 3rd SBH 27. Realistically SBH should finish 3rd.

Under 13 Girls – 1st Ealing 36, 2nd TVH 34, 3rd London Heathside 27, 5th SBH 20. It will hard to get up to 3rd place.

Under 15 Boys – 1st London Heathside 35, 2nd TVH 31, 3rd HH 30, 9th SBH 3.

Under 15 Girls – 1st SBH 36, 2nd Enfield 35, 3rd London Heathside 33. If SBH win no one can catch us, If Enfield win and SBH are 2nd it will be a tie, any other result and we can lose 1st place.

Under 17 Men – 1st SBH 40, 2nd Barnet 33, 3rd London Heathside 27. Realistically the only way SBH can lose, if by not fielding a team.

Under 17 Women – 1st SBH 37, 2nd Ealing 30, 3rd Barnet 23. Realistically again the only way SBH can lose, if by not fielding a team.



The overall position of the Men’s and Women’s teams are – MEN 1st TVH 129 points, 2nd SBH 105, 3rd Barnet 101. WOMEN Equal 1st Ealing and SBH 110, 3rd London Heathside 99.



Our sprinters competed in the Crystal Palace Indoor 60m Open on the 15 February. Firstly in the 60m Hurdles GEMMA BENNETT ran 2 races and won both, running 8.51 and 8.37 respectively. MAURICE RYAN also ran 2 races, the first he was 2nd running 9.10, and next was 3rd in 8.98. In the 60m flat GEMMA ran 7.65 in finishing 5th. Performance of the meeting went to AJ BOYCE who in winning both his races, achieved a PB of 6.97, then 6.82, which is ranked No.5 UK U23 in 2002.



Congratulations to MARILYN OKORO on achieving the qualifying time for the World Indoor Championships, on the 18 February at the Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham. The 800m race was run at an even pace, although Marilyn got slightly boxed in, managed to ease into 3rd place in a time of 2:02.62. In the 60m Hurdles GEMMA BENNETT after a busy week, finished 8th in a quality field, running 8.29. In the men’s heat JULIAN ADENIRAN ran a PB 7.71, in finishing 7th.



The Scottish Indoor Senior Championships took place in Glasgow, on the 19 February, In the 60m AJ BOYCE just missed out on the gold medal by 1 hundredth of a second. AJ won his heat in 7.11, and in the final ran 6.96. GREGOR MACLEAN won the gold medal vaulting 5.20m. And another gold medallist was NONI MORDI who in the Triple Jump won with 12.34m. In the High Jump ALLAN SMITH won a silver medal in jumping a PB 2.15m, which is ranked No.4 UK U23 in 2012. ALLAN SCOTT had a solid race in the 60m Hurdles heats, which he won in 8.0, unfortunately in the final he was disqualified.



The Midland Counties Indoor Open took place in Birmingham, on the 19 February. Following her endeavours at the Aviva Grand Prix, MARILYN OKORO stepped down to the 400m, and ran her fastest time indoors with a SB 53.33, which is ranked No.4 UK in 2012. Incidentally the race was won by Nicola Sanders in 52.48. Another excellent performance came from MARK POPKOV U17 who was 3rd in the Pole Vault with a SB 3.40m. In the 60m NENGI OSSAI V35 was 5th equalling his SB 7.18, which is ranked No.3 UK V35 in 2012.



On the 15 February the annual RAF Versus British Universities took place in Sheffield. MELISSA COURTNEY U20 opened her evening in the 800m, winning in a SB 2:19.16, then followed up with an impressive win in the 1500m running 4:46.52. GREG DUNSON V45 running for the RAF, ran a SB 9.15 in the 60m Hurdles for 4th place. In the field events ELOISE NEWMAN won the High Jump on count back, jumping 1.67m. In the Pole Vault GREGOR MACLEAN finished 2nd vaulting 5.15m. In the Women’s Pole Vault ANNA MASSEY had a comfortable win, vaulting 3.65m.



The EVAC and VAC Indoor Championships took place at the Lee Valley Athletic Centre on the 19 February, running her first race of 2012, LISA WEBB V45 running a SB 5:07.88, was 4th in the 1500m.



The Wokingham Half Marathon took place on the 19 February, PETER STAINER V45 ran an excellent race to finish 51st in 1:15.43, and was also 2nd over 45. BARRY CHISOLM V50 finished 698th 1:41.51.



PARKRUN results 18 February – At HAMPSEAD HEATH, PAUL SIMONS V45 who competed for the first time, won running 17.42, JEFF KAYE V50 was 13th in 21.50
