Congratulations to Nicola and James Trapmore, who last Saturday became proud parents to daughter Freida, who weighed in at 8lbs 2oz, all are doing very well. March 4th – Hertfordshire & Middlesex Indoor Championships Lee Valley Athletic Centre, 61 Meridian Way, Picketts Lock, Edmonton (SatNav N9 0AR). The fourth North West London League match took place on the 04 February at Wormwood Scrubs. Our Young Athletes were unfortunately not at full strength, due to the fact that the Hertfordshire School X/C Championships were being held on the same day. Tony stated it was bright but bitterly cold, and for those who have run at the scrubs, they will appreciate that there is no respite from the wind. Overall league tables are not issued after each match, but I have kept an unofficial table, and therefore my assessments are based on these. UNDER 11 GIRLS 1700m – 6th SOPHIA STAAB 6.56, 10th OLIVIA BOWEN 7.06, 11th NICOLE BOWEN 7.06, 19th ELLA ABADESSO 7.29. The winner was C Turner of Highgate Harriers in 6.06. The team had an excellent result and was 4th with 27 points, Highgate Harriers won with 20 points. Overall the team are in 7th place. UNDER 11 BOYS 2200m – 7th ELBY CINNAMOND 8.32, 24th BEN BELLISARIO 9.30. The winner was N Cowley-Andrea of Thames Valley Harriers in 7.46. The team finished 5th with 95 points, Highgate Harriers won with 38 points. Overall the team are neck and neck with Highgate Harriers. UNDER 13 GIRLS 2200m – No runners. Overall the team 5th with a chance of finishing 3rd. UNDER 13 BOYS 3000m – 6th FELIX BORDET-STEAD 11.07, 18th HAMZA ADEN 12.54. The winner was A Spink of Ealing, Southall & Middlesex in 10.30. The team finished 6th with 70 points, Thames Valley Harriers won with 32 points. Overall the team are 3rd, and will require a good turnout at the final match to hold off Highgate Harriers. UNDER 15 GIRLS 3000m – MOLLY GARDEN had a strong run and won in a time of 11.09, CHLOE GOODSON was not far behind and finished 4th in 11.32, EMMA DWAN was 8th in 12.15, finally ELLIE MCNAMARA was 12th in 12.47. . The team had a resounding win with 13 points. Overall the team are neck and neck with Enfield & Haringey. UNDER 15 BOYS 4400m – No runners. Overall the team 8th. UNDER 17 WOMEN 4400m – In a rather small field SUZU SATO finished in 5th place in a time of 18.52. The team finished 4th with 20 points, Ealing, Southall & Middlesex won with 16 points. Overall the team have a reasonable lead, but will still require a good turnout at the final match. UNDER 17 MEN 5200m – CALLUM MCCORMICK led our very strong team, and won by over 30 seconds in a time of 18.04, JAMES SOTHCOTT was 4th in 19.01, JOE HEADLAND was 6th in 19.14. The team had a comfortable win with 24 points. Overall the team have a reasonable lead, but will still require a good turnout at the final match. The Hertfordshire Schools Cross Country Championships took place on the 04 February at St Albans, with many Shaftesbury Young Athletes competing, with 2 county champions in NATALIE CONNOR and JAMIE HARPER. SENIOR GIRLS – KATE BARBER was 4th in 16.06, ISOBEL THOMPSON was 5th in 16.10, HARRIET CLIFFORD was 8th in 16.29, REBECCA GRAHAM was 11th in 18.20, CIARA STEWART was 25th in 19.04, CIARA is recovering from a bad ear infection. SENIOR BOYS – PHILLIP CROUT was 4th in 22.43, ASHOK MATHUR was 8th in 23.50, RORY COX was 9th in 23.57, RICHARD JOHNSON was 10th in 24.18. INTERMEDIATE GIRLS – Ever consistent NATALIE CONNOR had a runaway win by 37 seconds in 14.54. INTERMEDIATE BOYS – KYLE LANGFORD was 6th in 18.43, RORY MUDD was 7th in 18.46, MARK PEARCE was 10th in 19.02, JOSH CLIFFORD was 15th in 19.36. JUNIOR GIRLS – LIANNE LANGFORD in a tight finish was 3rd by 2 seconds in 11.20. JUNIOR BOYS – NATHAN DAVIES was 6th in 14.34, JAMES BRENNAN was 19th in 15.11. PREJUNIOR GIRLS – JESSICA HURLEY managed to repeat Lianne’s tight finish, and was 3rd by 2 seconds in 10.29. PRE JUNIOR BOYS – JAMIE HARPER continued his impressive winter form by winning in a time of 5.01. The McCain UK Indoor City Challenge took place at the EIS, Sheffield on the 05 February, and in a close contest the home team Sheffield Flames ran out winners with 197.5 points. London North Lions team managed by Geoff Morphitis were 2nd with 178.5 points. Shaftesbury results were as follows, In the 200m - CONFIDENCE LAWSON was 3rd running an indoor PB of 21.73, which is ranked No.4 UK U23 in 2012. 800m - MARILYN OKORO in her first race since last years World Championships, won by almost 2 seconds in a time of 2:04.29, which is ranked No.1 UK in 2012. 1500m – ANTHONY WHITEMAN V40 held on to finish in 2nd place, running a SB 3:47.20, which is ranked No.1 UK V40 in 2012, also a new British and Club Record. In a rarely used event the Tri Event – THOMAS ASHBY finished 5th with 2491 points, in the 60m Hurdles was 7th in 8.51, which is ranked No.8 UK U23 in 2012, Shot Putt 7.26kg was 3rd with 14.41m, which is ranked No.3 UK U23 in 2012, finally High Jump was 4th with a SB 1.91m. Pole Vault – JOE IVE in good form this season, finished 2nd vaulting 5.15m. Long Jump – DAN BRAMBLE won with jump of 7.39, 2 cm off his SB. Triple Jump – NATHAN FOX had an excellent win, jumping a SB 15.10m, which is ranked No.4 UK in 2012, and in the Women’s event NONI MORDI achieved a good 2nd place, jumping 12.67m, which is ranked No.8 UK in 2012. Shot 7.26kg – ZANE DUQUEMIN had a superb indoor PB putt of 17.40m, for an overall win, which is ranked No.3 UK in 2012. The London U15/U17 Games took place at the Lee Valley Centre on the 02 February, in the 60m Heats ANDREW ELEFTHERIOU U15 ran a PB 7.78 in finishing 3rd, another PB was recorded by SIAN SINCLAIR U15 who finished 3rd in 8.39, LAYLA WALKER-LAWRENCE U15 ran a PB 8.59 and finished 2nd. The 200m were next with DEREECE O’CALLAGHAN U17 finishing 2nd in a SB 22.90, ANDREW ELEFTHERIOU U15 completed a PB double, finishing 2nd in 25.02, SIAN SINCLAIR U15 also competed her PB double, by winning in 28.50. Next were the 400m and DEREECE had a good win, with a SB 49.66, which is ranked No.1 UK U17 in 2012. In the High Jump AURELIJA IPPOLITO U5 was 10th in a SB 1.30m. The Long Jump saw YASMIN LAKIN U17 finish 2nd with a SB jump of 5.13, just 3cm of her PB, AURELIJA also jumped a SB 4.39m, to finish 7th. To conclude the meeting YASMIN was very impressive in winning the Triple Jump, with a SB 11.20m. The Birmingham Games took place on the 04 & 05 February, and in the 60m heats ABI OYEPITAN won her heat running 7.51, NENGI OSSAI V35 finished 4th in a SB 7.18, which is ranked No.2 UK V35 in 2012. ABI improved her time in the semi-final, winning with 7.39. Sunday started with the 200m heats, NENGI was 2nd with a SB 22.89, ANTONIO INFANTINO won his heat in 21.82. ANTONIO made the semi-final and he won his in a SB 21.69, which is ranked No.3 UK U23 in 2012. In the Final he was a placed 3rd running 21.76. ELOISE NEWMAN showed consistent form again, and won the High Jump with 1.72m. GREGOR MACLEAN continued his 5m clearances this year in the Pole Vault, this time he won the event clearing 5.10m. Finally DEAN OAMEN U20 jumped 13.69m to be placed 7th in the Triple Jump. The Steel Indoor Cup took place at Sheffield on the 06 February, firstly in the 60m heats CLARICE UNDERWOOD had a close race and finished 2nd in a SB 8.0, then took on the Long Jump, and finished 3rd with a SB 4.13m. The Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow Indoor Winter Series took place at Eton on the 04 February, in the 60m heats JUSTIN GEOHAGAN was 3rd with 7.03, RENARD FREDERICK was 4th with 7.07, In the next round JUSTIN came 2nd running 6.96 just below his SB, and in the same race RENARD was 5th with 7.22. The 60m Hurdles featured MAURICE RYAN who was 4th in 8.78, and in the next round was 3rd in 8.82. The British University Cross Country Championships in Cardiff on the 04 February, in the Men’s race NIALL FLEMING U20 finished 12th running 31.12, also WILLIAM RYLE-HODGES U20 was 37th in 32.13. In the Men’s “B” race MATT GRANT finished 34th in 25.08. In the Senior Women’s race AMY CAMPBELL had a solid race and eventually finished 6th in 24.40, CLAIRE SIMM was 26th running 25.44, and MELISSA COURTNEY U20 was 31st in 25.56. NEIL GAMESTER ran the Chichester Priory 10k Road Race on the 05 February, and finished 4th just 4 seconds off the winner, running a PB 29.41. HARRY SAGEL U20 competed in the Campionat De Catalunya Absolut Indoors in Sabadell, Spain on the 05 February, running in the 1500m finished 8th with a PB 4:02.90. DAN BRAMBLE competed in the Gugl Indoors in Linz, Austria on the 02 February, finished 6th after jumping a SB 7.41m in the Long Jump, which is ranked No.3 UK U23 in 2012. CLIFF GOLDING V50 competed in the Canterbury 10 Mile Road Race on the 29 January, and reduced his PB by almost 20 seconds, running 1:11.47, and finished 197th in a field of 899 runners. PARKRUN results 04 February – At OAK HILL, SAAM KYU SMART U13 came 4th reducing his PB to 21.48, YEE YEWT SMART U17 was 7th taking 9 seconds off her PB running 22.42 and YAT WING SMART U20 was 10th running 23.18. | |
