SOUTHERN CHAMPIONSHIPS – WE HAVE JUST BEEN INFORMED THAT DUE TO THE BRIGHTON V NEWCASTLE FOOTBALL MATCH THERE WILL BE NO OFFICIAL CAR PARKING AVAILABLE. SIMON HAS E-MAILED THE SENIOR RUNNERS. FOR SPECTATORS IF YOU FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS SHOWN BELOW, AND TRY AND FIND PARKING NEAR FALMER.

January 28th – Southern Championships Cross Country

Stanmer Park, Brighton, Sussex (SatNav BN19SE)

Start times – 11.00am U15 Boys (4.5km), 11.20am U13 Girls (3km), 11.35am U13 Boys (3km), 11.50am U15 Girls (4km), 12.10pm U17 Men (6km), 12.40pm U20 Women (6km), 1.05pm U17 Women (5km), 1.30pm U20 Men (8km), 2.05pm Senior Women (8km), 2.50pm, Senior Men (15km).

You have to have been pre-entered by your Team Manager. But please let Simon, Tony and Joyce know if you are running.

Directions – Leave the M25 at Junction 7, to join the M23, sign-posted Gatwick Airport. Continue on the M23 until it finishes and becomes the A23, then before you get to Brighton, turn off onto the A27 sign-posted to Lewes. Continue on the A27, followings signs for Stanmer Park, University of Sussex & Falmer. THERE IS A COACH LEAVING COPTHALL AT 7.40AM. February 4th - North West London League Cross Country Race 4

Wormwood Scrubs, Off Du Cane Road, East Acton. Changing is in the Linford Christie Stadium which is situated at the back of Hammersmith Hospital and Wormwood Scrubs Prison. (SatNav W120AF).

Nearest station is East Acton (Central Line).

Start times – PLEASE NOTE THE START TIMES ARE EARLIER THAN USUAL 12.00noon U11 Girls 1.7km, approximately 12.10pm U11 Boys/U13 Girls 2.2km, approximately 12.30pm U13 Boys/U15Girls 3km, approximately 12.50pm U15 Boys/U17 Women 4.4km approximately 1.15pm U17 Men 5.2km. If anyone is just out of the U17 age group, they can run as a guest.

You do not have to be pre-entered, just turn up and run. But please let Tony and Joyce know if you are running.



February 4th – Middlesex Masters Cross Country

Mad Bess Woods, Ruislip. Car parking is opposite Ruislip Lido, Reservoir Road (SatNav HA47TY).

Start time – 2.30pm Men 40+, Women 35+.

February 4th – London Indoor Games U15 and U17

Lee Valley Athletic Centre. (SatNav N90A).

Events – 60m, 60m Hurdles, 200m, 300m U17 Women Only, 400m U15 & U17 Men Only, 800m, Long Jump, High Jump, Pole Vault, Triple Jump U17 Men & Women Only, Shot Putt.

Entry Close 30 January, And Entry Form Attached. Timetable Available 31 January.



February 11th - London City Runner Metropolitan League Cross Country Race 5

Perivale Community Centre, Horsenden Lane South, Greenford, Middlesex. (SatNav UB67NP).

Start times – 1.15pm U13 Boys 3km, 1.17pm U13 Girls 3km, Not Before 1.35pm U15 Boys/U17 Men 4km, Not Before 1.37pm U15 Girls/U17 Women 4km, Not Before 1.55pm U20/Senior/Veteran Women 6km, Not Before 2.35pm U20/Senior/Veteran Men 8km. Course is approximately 5 minutes from centre.

You do not have to be pre-entered, just turn up and run. But please let Simon, Tony and Joyce know if you are running.

Directions – Leave the A40 sign-posted Perivale and follow signs to Horsenden Lane South/Perivale Station (SatNav UB67NP). Nearest station Perivale (Central Line), turn right out of station and Community Centre 5 minutes on the left.

Congratulations to ANTHONY WHITEMAN who at the recent Northern Indoor Championships at Sheffield, won the 800m with a UK M40 Indoor Record, clocking 1:52.58, 0.14 away from the European M40 Indoor best.



The Southern Indoor Championships Days 2 and 3 were held at Lee Valley on the 21 and 22 January, We had 8 Southern Champions who are as follows, JOE IVE in the Pole Vault produced one of the performances of the championships, by vaulting 5.30m which is a new Indoor Club Record, eclipsing Christian Linskey’s vault of 5.21m, which was set in 1999. ABI OYEPITAN started her season in fine form, by winning the final in a SB 7.31 not too far off her PB, leading up to the final ABI had 2 wins, running 7.34 and 7.40 respectively. BLADE ASHBY U20 who won his heat of the 60m Hurdles in 8.17, and in the final showed a clean pair of heels to his rivals, winning in a PB of 8.07. GEMMA BENNETT who eased through her heat of the 60m Hurdles to win in 8.33, and in the final she just edged out Sarah Claxton to win in a SB 8.25. REINIER BUSITIL had a good series of jumps, and won the Long Jump with a SB 7.55m which was a new Championship Best Performance. Following up in the Triple Jump, NADIA WILLIAMS won with a SB 13.13m. Finally NICHOLAS PERCY U20 threw a massive PB of 14.12m, to win the 6kg Shot Putt. The final winner was SHADINE DUQUEMIN U20 who won the 4kg Shot Putt with a PB of 13.49m, an improvement of 68cm. Just missing out by 5cm was DEAN OAMEN U20 who finished 2nd in the Triple Jump with a SB 14.04m.



There were a number of Shaftesbury athletes in the 60m heats, In the heats CONFIDENCE LAWSON ran a quick 6.92 to finish 2nd, RENARD FREDERICK ran a SB 7.01 to finish 2nd, JUSTIN GEOHAGAN was also 2nd running 7.06, next was AJ BOYCE who ran 7.06 in finishing 3rd. In the next round CONFIDENCE came 3rd running a SB 6.86, RENARD was 4th running 7.02, JUSTIN was also 3rd running a SB 6.94, while AJ improved his PB running 6.98 in finishing 3rd. CONFIDENCE qualified for the semi-final and finished 5th in 6.94, following this he ran the 200m and won his heat in a SB 22.35. In the under 20’s 60m heats NICHOLAS PERCY stepped up from his normal events, to finish 4th running a SB 7.64. DEREECE O’CALLAGHAN U17 was 2nd running a PB 7.44, and he ran 7.44 again to finish 4th in the semi-final. MAURICE RYAN was 5th in the 60m Hurdles running 8.94. In the 200m RENARD FREDERICK ran a SB 22.86 to finish 4th, in heat 4 MATTHIAS BOS finished 3rd in 22.71 just outside his PB. PAUL LASLETT produced a SB 3:58.52 in finishing 4th in the 1500m. LAYLA WALKER LAWRENCE U15 ran the 60m, clocking an impressive PB of 8.58 in finishing 5th.



ALLAN SCOTT ran in the Scottish National Open in Glasgow on the 21 January, and had an impressive win in the 60m Hurdles, running a SB 7.85. ALLAN SMITH won the High Jump with 2.10m, just 2 cm of his PB. Not to be outdone NONY MORDI won the Triple Jump title, jumping a SB 12.76m.



At the Crystal Palace Indoor 60m Open on the 18 January, MAURICE RYAN won his 1st race running 9.14, and then won a subsequent race in a quick PB of 8.73.



PETER STAINER V45 represented the Fire Service in the RAF v Police v Fire Service meeting at RAF Halton on the 18 January, finishing 36th in 36.31.



GREGOR MACLEAN competed in the Insa Perch’formance meeting at Villeurbanne, France on the 21 January, and finished 10th in the Pole Vault with a SB 5.19m.



PARKRUN results 21 January – Top prize of the w/e goes to EMILY NEILAN who at St Albans ran for the 1st time, and finished 16th in 20.50, also 1st Woman. Over at Brockwell JAMES TRAPMORE took off his XC spikes and finished 3rd running 16.42. At OAK HILL STUART SINGER V50 finished 5th in 21.24, YAT WING SMART U20 was 9th running 23.03, and SAAM KYU SMART U13 came 11th running 23.52. At POOLE yet another PB was set by HUGH RICHARDS V65 improved this by 49 seconds, running 26.20 in coming 160th.
